The Ned Hotel – City of London

JWK Electrical recently completed the full electrical installation of the newly converted Ned Hotel. The Grade I-listed, 11-storey building was the former Midland bank in the City of London, designed in 1924 by British architect Edwin “Ned” Lutyens. The design was undertaken by Sydell Group and Soho House and Co. both of which boast a large international portfolio of formidable hotels.

In April 2017, The Ned opened its doors as a lavish hotel, club and dining venue by Soho House & Co and named “The Ned” in his honour. The complex comprises 9 restaurants, 252 suites, a social and fitness club incorporating a rooftop pool, gym, spin studio, boxing ring, spa facilities, and late-night lounge bar that has quickly gained recognition throughout the world. It recently won the crown of ‘European AHEAD’ hotel of the year award. The design was as such it was intended to revive the building in such a way that retained the grandeur of the original space, including the 3,000 sq.m former banking hall.

The project itself posed many challenges due to the building heritage, the heavily reinforced vault walls – which would house money and bullion in its heyday -also its challenging location right in the heart of London City. We faced many difficulties with logistics and stringent health and safety requirements from start to finish.  None-the-less, we delivered the project successfully, adding another hallmark to JWK Electrical’s ever-growing impressive portfolio.
